Jayapura, Kabarpapua.online – Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), Meg Taylor, affirmed that the issue of West Papua’s independence proposed by the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), was never discussed in a PIF member dialogue meeting in Samoa last month. Last August, in a PIF meeting, the Pacific countries that were members of the PIF firmly acknowledged that development and progress in Papua are getting better, Saturday (01/09).
She also added that ULMWP is not a member of PIF, because PIF membership is for sovereign countries, overseas territories, or official international organizations.
However, it is known that ULMWP annually claim themselves representing Papuan people in international forums and intensely sells Papuan issues to take advantage and interests of the group. The issue presented is also a fictitious one, intentionally twisting the facts for the benefit of the group.
But all the issues that were deliberately made were refuted by the presence of state visits incorporated in the PIF membership and several other state visits in Papua, and from these visits countries that were members of the PIF membership recognized the progress of development in Papua and set Papua as an example to be implemented in their countries.
This further emphasizes that ULMWP is only a group of people who seeks to damage the peace. Furthermore, ULMWP always failed and rejected, both at the MSG and PIF Summit. ULMWP also is having a hard time dealing with the requirements in participating in PIF activities, one of the conditions is a sovereign country that is recognized internationally.
In addition, the celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in Papua, which lasted lively in mid-August, was crowded with Papuan; later became a strong evidence of nationalism and a great sense of love for their homeland. Even though there were so many appeals and propaganda carried out by both the KNPB and ULMWP to not celebrate, this attempt did not deter Papuan to show their happiness upon their country’s Independence Day.
On the contrary, the activities carried out by ULMWP were always in the form of incitement and defamation of ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group relations. Their attempt were unwelcome and undesired by the public or students in Papua. This reality signifies the great sense of Indonesian nationalism and love for the homeland in the land of Papua. Besides that, it shows that Papuan community is not easily deflected and is able to see the truth and what is considered false will not get accommodated in the land of Papua.
