The real steps of President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) government in developing Papua and West Papua, have slowly been able to change the situation in the two provinces to be more advanced than in previous years. In the last four years, there have been a lot of changes in development progress in the two eastern tip provinces of Indonesia. Especially the construction of the Trans Papua road connecting the isolated areas so that it gives a lot of effects to the progress of the people there.
“The progress that has been felt must be utilized properly by the people of Papua and West Papua. Therefore, President Jokowi’s steps must be guarded so they continue to run smoothly to accelerate the realization of people’s welfare that has long been dreamed of in these two provinces,” said the Chairperson of The Pioneer of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia (PPKRI) of Papua and West Papua, Stevanus S Wetipo, in a meeting with the editors of Suara Pembaruan and Beritasatu.com in Jakarta, Wednesday (21/11).
Stevanus on that occasion was accompanied by four Papuan leaders, namely the Head of the Lanny Jaya Tribe, Yanes Wenda, the Chairman of the Papua Mandiri Community DPP Nilson Worabay, the youth leader Yahukimo Yason Yahuli, and the Mapi youth figure, Urban Hilapok.
Stevanus Wetipo said that what Jokowi had done in Papua in the four years of his administration had restored the Papuans’ sense of trust to the government. Not only building roads, but Jokowi realized housing development that was needed by the community, improved education, people’s economy, and so on.
“During the previous decades, there has not been a real development that is currently being felt in Papua,” Stevanus said.
According to him, Papua’s natural resource wealth is extraordinary, now is the time to be managed optimally for the welfare of the people there.
However, to process the wealth of natural resources, investors from outside the region are needed, because local people have not been able to manage it themselves. That is because, a guarantee of security for investing in Papua is needed.
According to Stevanus, he recently handed over 90 hectares of land to build a Military Resort Command (Korem) office in Jayawijaya Regency. The existence of this TNI institution is expected to be a means of maintaining the security of the community at large, including investments that enter Papua.
But is not enough, said Stevanus, the need is to have a strong sense of belonging to the NKRI must continue to be nurtured in society.
That is because, the PPKRI planned on December 1, 2018, will be stretche the 5-kilometer Red and White Flag centered in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency. This will be the longest stretch of the Red and White in Indonesian history.
According to Stevanus, around 1,000 people were prepared to unfurl the national flag. “This will be a ‘Klaim Merah Putih’ that is very important as the attitude of the Papuan people who love the Unitary Republic of Indonesia,” said Stevanus, who is the heir of the determinants and historians of the liberation of West Irian through Pepera and Trikora between 1961-1969.
Stevanus said that the red-and-white flag was aimed at minimizing the activities of understanding radicalism, terrorism and separatism aimed at dividing the unity and unity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia throughout the Land of Papua.
“We are working with religious, traditional, community and security leader to educate the public about the importance of fighting all separatist movements that are in conflict with the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.
Along with the Red and White said Stevanus, it was also proposed to give the name Silo Sukarno Street on the Trans Papua route which stretched from Jayapura to Wamena along approximately 500 km. Silo Sukarno or his complete Silo Nalokvano Saul Sukarno Doga, is a deceased figure in Papua who plays an important role as the actor and determinant of the implementation of Acts and Trikora.
Stevanus, who was active in national movements, said that Silo Sukarno had also been proposed to the government to be declared a national hero, because he was considered to have great services in the struggle with President Soekarno to maintain the NKRI in that period.
In the SP record, from 2015 to September 2018, the Jokowi government through the Ministry of Public Works and Housing has built around 1,982 km of the Trans Papua road.
The government also applies a one fuel price policy so that the premium price in Papua, which was originally IDR 50,000 – 100,000 per liter and West Papua between IDR 15,000 – 30,000 per liter. At present the premiums in the two provinces are IDR 6,450 / liter and diesel is IDR 5,510 / liter.
Since 2002, special autonomy funds have been provided for Papua and West Papua, which until now the total value has reached Rp. 75 trillion.
